The CHALT Candidates Forum held on September 12 was well attended and lively. The event began with presentations by the two Chapel Hill mayoral candidates followed by a series of questions posed to the seven Town Council candidates. Aaron Keck, WCHL, moderated the panel and audience questions with spirit and humor.
The very first audience question came from a Blue Hill district resident who expressed dissatisfaction with the scale and form of new construction going on there. Candidate answers made it clear that in the case of the Blue Hill district, a different Council approved the Code standards way back in 2014. The Town Council will need to change the permitting process to require public hearings where citizen input can bring needed improvements. Many candidates favored fixing these regulations.
