This fall, Town Council member Hongbin Gu has decided to put her hat in the ring for Mayor of Chapel Hill. Chapel Hill Mayor Pam Hemminger is running for a fourth two year term as Mayor. A second challenger, Zachary Boyce, a student at the UNC Law School also filed making it a three way race .
Chapel Hill voters also will choose at least three new council members, since only incumbent council member Karen Stegman is seeking re-election. One council seat has remained vacant since former member Rachel Schaevitz moved to New Zealand in 2020. Chapel Hill council member Allen Buansi announced he will not seek a second term in office and Gu will not run for Council since she is challenging Mayor Hemminger.
