Your October 8th article mischaracterizes the relationship between The Local Reporter and CHALT.
CHALT has expressed the harm done to civic life in Chapel Hill by the loss of our local newspaper and the hope that a replacement could be found. We have welcomed the creation of The Local Reporter and hope it is successful. But CHALT did not launch The Local Reporter as your article stated. That is not part of our mission, which is to advocate for Town policies consistent with a sustainable quality of life in Chapel Hill.
The Local Reporter was founded by some of the same individuals who had a role in founding CHALT in 2014. But later they chose to embark on a separate effort to found a newspaper. They carried out independently sponsored meetings and activities to get The Local Reporter on its feet and funded. There is no connection between these two independent organizations.
