Instructions given to each candidate: Please answer each question thoughtfully. Your answer will be videotaped but not edited unless your answer exceeds the two-minute limit. We will post each answer on our website and in the media. Thank you for your willingness to participate in our democracy!

1. Introductory question (one minute): First, tell us your motivation for running for office.

2. Everyone in Chapel Hill wants development that produces affordable and workforce housing for all, preserves our tree canopy and green spaces, and
reduces traffic congestion and stormwater flooding. Yet most of the new housing that has been built is expensive rental apartments built on clear-cut lots with lots of parking. Would you change this policy? If so, how? If not, why?

3. After a long and significantly adversarial process, the Town Council approved additional density on existing residential lots in many residential areas. What do you anticipate the future outcome of these changes will be, positive and/or negative? How can the Town Council help bring more affordable and workforce housing to Chapel Hill?

4. Parks, recreational space, and green space are all essential to the wellbeing of our residents, and local wildlife–and they help prevent heat islands. The Town Council has adopted a “Complete Communities Framework” which includes transit, parks, green space, and amenities. What is your view of the framework? What policies would you support to make these livable elements happen?

5. Chapel Hill neglected capital improvements for over a decade. Now we must play catchup. How would you prioritize spending to avoid additional tax increases?

6. Many citizens have concerns that their input has been reduced by council policies that eliminated public hearings and reduced the role of citizen advisory boards. How important is it for residents to be involved in Town decision-making? What changes would you make to enhance public participation?
