GET INVOLVED

CHALT aims to help you understand local government and make it work for you.

CHALT is a group of individuals who work together for responsible growth and making our town better. What we mean by “responsible development” is captured by the goals on this page. https://www.chalt.org/about-us/our-goals.

We have chosen not to elect a Board of Directors but rather make decisions by consensus by those who are interested in working to support these goals. Our energy springs from participating in Town issues, and talking and working with people who share their interests and concerns with us.

The video “What is CHALT” captures the informality and the motivation that keeps us going. We actively take part in Town Council public hearings and meetings on a range of topics from transit, to the Town’s Climate Action Plan, to stormwater control, to flooding and deforestation problems. We enjoy researching topics and producing well-educated opinions. Occasionally, CHALT will take one position that emerges from our discussions and we may send letters or present that opinion to the Town Council, the Orange County Commission, or other organizations.

We know our Town Council spends the majority of its time reviewing development applications and these decisions affect the trajectory of our future growth. CHALT wants local government to work for everyone, and our speciality is to serve as a resource for individuals, groups, and neighborhoods who have an issue and want to figure out how our Town government can work for them.

If you would like to consult with us on an issue, please contact info@chalt.org. If you would like to attend a CHALT planning meeting held approximately twice a month with an issue you have prepared, we can invite you to attend and discuss the issue. Please send your name, contact information, and your concern to info@chalt.org. We also contribute to the Town dialogue on issues through our Speaker series. All members of the public are invited to our public meetings where we specialize in a topic area.
