Joal Hall Broun, 46,Lobbyist Compliance Director, N.C. Department of the Secretary of State

Experience:  Appointed  to the Board in March 2016, Chapel Hill High School Improvement Team for two years, serving as its chair until she was appointed to the Board.  Joal currently serves as a member of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Branch NAACP education committee.  Joal also served as an elected official on the Carrboro Board of Alderman from 1999 to 2011.  Joal was elected to the school board in March 2016 after completing her appointed term.

James Barrett, 47, School Board 2011-present, Current Chairman of the Board

Experience: Experience: 6 years on CHCCS Board of Education, including chair as we hired Dr Pam Baldwin as superintendent; Justice United strategy team founding member: child of the district: attended Seawell, Phillips, and Chapel Hill High; former high school youth group advisor at Holy Trinity Lutheran; former coach of multiple YMCA and Chapel Hill and Carrboro parks and rec baseball and basketball teams; former math volunteer in CHCCS classrooms; information technology program manager.

Amy Fowler, 48, Pediatrician, Chapel Hill Children’s Clinic

Experience: CHCCS Parent, CHCCS Teacher 2013 – 2017, Elected Delegate to the CHCCS Superintendent’s Advisory Committee 2015 – 2017, Nominated Member of the CHCCS Wellness Committee 2011 – 2012, Estes Hills Equity Committee 2013 – 2017, Pediatrician for 12 years in the Bronx NY, then in Durham NC; Masters in the Art of Teaching from NC State University 2011 – 2013

Mary Ann Wolf, 46, Director of Professional Learning and Leading Collaborative, N.C. State University Friday Institute for Educational Innovation

Experience: Educator, CHCCS parent, Summit leader for districts across the country through the Future Ready initiative, Leadership team for the NC Digital Learning Initiative, previous Executive Director of the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA), PhD Education Leadership and Policy from the University of Virginia, Curry School of Education, former CPA.
